Just reminded by late night movies flickering in the background of this line in Spartan (script), a David Mamet film which features my favorite "dissembling by someone getting caught in the act of breaking and entering":
SCOTT: (surprised by the man whose house he's broken into):The man freezes temporarily, to his mortal detriment. I'd probably pause, too. It's just so nuts.
I heard the TV so I came in...Why in the hell you got the TV on there's no one here....no, I don't want to hurt you, why would I want to hurt you, I just want to know why your TV's on.
