I read somewhere once that as you get older, you wake up every day a little sadder.

Today I turned 50! Wish me luck!

Well, no. I'm just skipping past the graveyard whistling. It's not my birthday and I'm not 50, I'm 31. 31, that is, going on fifty. [not my actual birthday, which is 5/30 -- I'm just age-aware today and am marking time]

I read somewhere once that as you get older, you wake up every day a little sadder. The colors fade with repeated washings. Yes.

Faded talent.
"It needs a little work."
What brings this on? I could almost believe it was A Painfully Acute Portrayal of Age and the Afterglow of Faded Talent. No cigar, but good enough to make the creaky old-man aches throb... Sigh. The Wonder Boys, just a movie, not a prophecy, nor a mirror...(keep repeating)

It has a schlocky Hollywood ending. Kids today...

sn*cker... Adam Roberts, author, shares his thoughts on NOT winning the Arthur C. Clarke Award for Science Fiction. "Perdido Street Station is a tremendous novel, a superbly atmospheric and evocative example of dark fantasy, brimful of innovation and excellence. And China himself, whom I've met, is the nicest bloke you could imagine. His book deserved to win in almost every respect except for the most important one: IT WASN'T MINE." [via sore eyes]

Sigh. It reads like fiction, another Chris Buckley novel?... Nando Times: Smoking foes angered by Philip Morris report on upside of early deaths "Savings on health care, pensions and housing for the elderly totaled $30 million, the report said."

Hey co-workers, hey co-workers, hey! This one is for you. A Word HTML Cleaner. "This utility strips proprietary Microsoft tags and artefacts from Word HTML documents, leaving basic formatting and typographic entities intact." (Whew! Now I don't have to write it.) From the great soon-to-be-expat Textism.

A (short) list of web sites whose design and layout I like and therefore intend to steal by passing off the theft as homage and then eventually, by omission and persistence, claiming their genius as my own:

  1. nickblog
  2. seethru, the weblog section

  3. daphne tako, a.k.a. punka

  4. human lint

  5. sweet aspirations

  6. brainsluice

Don't look at me like that. I also love your design. I just don't want you to get a big head. :)
