Placing any part of oneself in a harmful environment, willingly or knowingly is weird and ...kind of... fascinating.

me, through a glass darkly, Oakland, CA Aug. 2001
sink, glass, soap, hand, blood

Cut myself on a knife doing dishes.

Hot water doesn't help a cut to clot. In fact, just as it would stop bleeding, I would put my hand back into the hot water and it would start again.

Placing any part of oneself in a harmful environment, willingly or knowingly is weird and ...kind of... fascinating.

I stopped to take a picture because I felt this rush of foreboding. [Why continue to publicly distribute music that people will tear apart...?] We've done this before. And while it was great...it was painful.

Re-entering an environment of casual, caustic, biting criticism and easy dismissal of one's creative endeavors suddenly seemed a lot like running an open wound under hot water.
