From Penguinista: Linux on the Desktop: The Possibility Still Exists. Yesterday morning, I installed Linux-Mandrake 8.0 on a machine at work. Total setup time: 20 minutes. I clicked the default setting for almost everything. (I did select the Web server installation package, however) It found all of my hardware devices and installed appropriate drivers. It asked if I wanted a DHCP network setup, which it proceeded to configure perfectly.
It was easier and quicker than any Windows 2000 or NT installation I've performed. (Fun personal note: I used to run a help desk for a Microsoft-centric corporation. I've performed countless numbers of installations. This one was as easy as any installation perfomed by disk imaging software such as Ghost or Drive Image.) I won't be switching my home setup anytime soon, since I am reasonably happy with Windows 2000 Advanced Server, but I think I would be happy to use Mandrake as a desktop solution in another situation, say if I were a small business, especially a software company.
I should also mention that I found Konqueror 2.1.1 to be a very good browser. I've only tested it for about an hour, but it seems to have as much CSS-1 and DOM compliance as one needs to comfortably browse any site.

Uncomfortable segue alert! Let's move on by quoting again from the article mentioned yesterday: "Publishers must serve the values of both authors and readers."
Musically speaking, I'm fortunate enough to be an "author" in that equation. And (did I mention?) my friends and I need a publisher that is better attuned to the values of the community we frequent.
Right. So we've decided to step down, very lightly, into the pool and hang out in the shallow end with the launch of Keiki Records.
If that doesn't help matters, we can always, y'know, stop. I can't imagine that, though. Really. Things are just getting fun. ;)

Hey Tim:
As you know, it looked like I had a couple of great pictures of movie equipment, mannequins, and sidewalk placards cum Non-Disclosure-Agreements, but... crap. A slip of the thumb and I erased all of the shots from the set of the soon-to-be-awful The Sweetest Thing. I'm sorry.
