I quote Bjarne and watch Eric Raymond and Ballmer two-step. Plus, a picture of where I work.

Where I work - June 2001.
"Computer and programming languages can be appreciated as works of art, but aesthetic factors should complement and enhance utility, not substitute for or compromise utility." - Bjarne Stroustrup, designer of C++
Can one replace "computer and programming languages" with "corporate websites" in the above statement?

Just fun. How to Write Unmaintainable Code

Eric S. Raymond refutes Ballmer's "cancer" statements point-by-point. I've had a couple of links lately that could well be interpreted as general anti-Microsoft sentiment. Actually, I'm mixed in my feelings about Microsoft, because I view Microsoft as a schizophrenic entity. One aspect of the company, either through design or acquisition, has produced products with amazing technological achievements (Excel and Visual Studio are the first that come to mind) and has perhaps been the most successful organization, to date, in lowering the barrier to entry in computing for millions. Another darker aspect of the company is solely a marketing concern preoccupied with maintaining a monopoly; a company that often lies in public and whose strong-arm tactics I abhor.
